Green roof in Winchester

2 July 2010

Our green roof installation was completed today.  The installation of a green roof is part of our sustainable approach for this domestic extension.  As well as exceeding building regulations requirements for insulation in the floor and roof we have provided a sunpipe to illuminate an internal hallway, are improving the insulation in the existing walls, and ensuring construction is airtight.

Green roofs have environmental benefits but the main reason was to minimise the visual impact of the extension and enhance the view to the east of Winchester.  The internal plan was arranged to ensure that we made the most of this view, which is remarkable considering it’s within a mile of the train station.

Unfortunately, the suppliers recommend that it’s accessed only for maintenance, so we won’t be putting up a deckchair and parasol!
